Vases Pattern
AI describes the design as: A playful pattern of overlapping stylised vases in varied shapes, with crisp outlines and translucent forms creating a fresh, mid-century modern feel.
The design is all my own work of course. I enjoy laboriously creating all of the bottle and vase shapes. What is rather surprising though is that AI described it as “mid-century modern” which was my intention, I’m just surprised AI can tell the difference! It perhaps reinforces my idea of how I remember Mid-Century Modern designs.

Groups of Vases
My early designs had individual vases, but they seemed to float around. Grouping them together into pairs or trios gives the design more structure.
Tightening The Design
My next versions were much tighter semi-transparent vases which took on the colour of the background.
Colouring The Pattern
The first designs had simple pale blue and green colours so see if the design worked. The shapes are 70% of the colour, making them semi-transparent. I then progressed to try some more fun combinations. I particularly like the red and cyan combinations.
Final Vases Design
Finally this version sees half of each vase much darker giving the appearance of shadows. I used tints of the main colour for the lighter parts of the design rather than opacity to avoid see-through problems earlier designs had.
Final Colour Choice
Like most people I have my go-to favourite colours. Red, cyan, teal and greys are often in my final line-up.
